Introduction

Over the past year I have devoted a bit of time to understanding Sefer Yeshaya, known in English as the Book of Isiah. As with many of the prophets, just understanding the basic message of the prophet can be difficult. This is especially true with Yeshaya who can seem very repetitive. The other challenge of Yeshaya is the fact that many parts of Yeshaya have been taken as "proof" that Jesus is Messiah. While that doesn't hold up to a close scrutiny of his words in the original Hebrew, it has lent an aura of inaccessibility to the book for many Jews.
I have decided to use as the basis for my study the commentary of Rabbi Moshe Dovid Valle. Rabbi Valle's works were mostly unknown until relative recently. He was an 18th century student of Rabbi Moshe Chayim Luzatto as well as a physician. He wrote extensive commentary, mixing pshat with Kabbalistic insights on all of the Tanach (Bible). These have been slowly printed for the first time over the past twenty years. I have many volumes of his commentary. The first one to which I was introduced was his commentary on Koheles (Ecclesiastes) which, in my opinion, is the best commentary on Koheles ever written.
Having taken extensive notes during my studies, I have decided to start typing them up and sharing them on a blog so others who do not have access to his works, can enjoy them as well.
